Amcrest IP5M-T1179 vs Hikvision vs GW Security
Amcrest introduces new models of 5mp outdoor POE cameras – the Amcrest IP5m-T1179 turret model with 5MP resolution and Amcrest IP8m-MT2544 4k turret model camera. We’ll focus on the 5mp version of this Amcrest turret model and compared with Hikvision and GW Security.

Overview
Security camera with 1080p video resolution for your home needs is sufficient and looks good when you playback the video footage with your Smartphone. However, when you zoom-in the image will demonstrate much noise or the image will be broken. For that, if the need for a higher resolution camera, then take a security camera with double (2K) resolution than the camera / video with 1080p resolution. And if 2K (4mp) video resolution is still not enough then you may consider 4k security camera. However, for home usage 2K resolution camera is appropriate.
Amcrest 5MP vs Hikvision vs GW Security
This article collects three of popular cameras with 5.0MP resolution including Amcrest IP5M-T1179 turret model (the lower resolution version of Amcrest IP8M-MT2544 4k turret camera); Hikvision DS-2CD2352-I Turret model outdoor camera, and GW Security GW5071 dome model.
For detailed specs each of the product you may click through the product link below this article including Amazon shopping links and current prices.
To make it easy to see the comparison of these three products the following two tables below provide insight into the comparison of the specs of these three products, which are represented in table 1 which compares Amcrest vs Hikvision, and table 2, which presents the comparison of Amcrest vs GW Security.

Lens
Both Amcrest and Hikvision here are the turret dome model, while GW Security is a standard dome model. The two Amcrest and Hikvision models are designed with fixed lens with different focal length options. While GW Security is designed with varifocal lens you can adjust manually ranging from 2.8mm up to 12mm focal length to meet your field of view angle.
Unlike motorized varifocal lens which can be adjust remotely via the app, with manual varifocal lens you need to open the hood and adjust the desired focal length, it’s a bit hassle actually. The manual varifocal lens is an old fashion model; you may consider the new models with motorized optical zoom such as GW Security gw8571 which can be controlled by software from the recording unit or remotely by using your mobile devices with the app.

Video resolution
All the three products come with the same video resolution; however there is a bit difference at the frame rate speed. Both Amcrest and Hikvision demonstrate the same frame rate @20 fps at 5MP resolution, but GW Security does slower frame rate @15 fps at 5MP and you can get the real time frame rate @30 fps at 3MP or 2MP video resolution.
Night vision
These three products also offer night vision capability in black and white view when the daytime switches to dim night. At this time the camera system activates infrared light to illuminate up to a certain distance as seen on the night vision row on the table.
Viewing videos in black and white may be sufficient for certain situations, but for the need to be able to see more clearly and more detail such as the skin and clothe color or the color of the car captured within the frame, black and white view cannot be relied upon. Then you need a camera with color night vision capabilities such as Lorex cameras that use CNV (color night vision) technology. Hikvision has introduced Colorvu camera series that can provide 24/7 full color. See also Hikvision DS-2CD2347G1-LU ColorVu 4MP Turret with full color day and night.
