Amcrest IP8M-2493 vs Hikvision vs Lorex 4K security Camera
Amcrest offers new 4k security camera – Amcrest IP8M-2493. How it is compared with Hikvision 2CD2185FWD-1 and Lorex LNE8974 4K security camera.
When you find that your HD 1080p or 2K security camera doesn’t provide you high quality image detail, you require ultra HD camera – a high resolution 8MP (aka 4K) security camera that connects to high bandwidth 4K security camera system kits.
Amcrest introduces IP8M-2493 ultra HD 8MP or 4K security camera delivers high resolution of up to 3840×2160 pixels @15 fps. This camera is supposed to compete with those 4k security cameras have been around in the market today.

Amcrest doesn’t apply optical zoom to this product to reduce hardware complexity and off course to reduce cost since optical zoom add overhead production cost. However Amcrest add 16x intelligent digital zoom provides you range of 69~112 degree field of view angle. Indeed, zooming in camera with digital zoom is not as sharp as optical zoom camera.

Amcrest IP8M-2493 vs Hikvision vs Lorex
Today, there are few models of 4k security camera available in the market and let’s compare how good the features of Amcrest IP4M-2493 compared with Hikvision and Lorex. Hikvision offers few models of 4k security camera including DS-2CD2085FWD-I or Hikvision 2CD2185FWD-1 we’ll compare it with Amcrest here. Lorex also offers few models of 4k camera including LNB8005, LNE8111B 4k camera or the LNE8974BW 8MP camera we’ll compare with Amcrest.
All the three products offer the same recording resolution of 4K (3840×2160 pixels) but with slightly different frame rates per second (fps). Hikvision offers 4K @20 fps while both Amcrest and Lorex offer the same 15 fps.
Lorex offers varifocal lens 2.8~ 12 mm providing 4x optical zoom, motorized optical zoom you can control remote or locally using your mobile device with app. In addition of 4x optical zoom Lorex apply software based digital zoom, 16x digital zoom. On the hand Amcrest comes with 16x digital zoom with the absence of optical zoom. But Hikvision comes with no zoom feature.
With varifocal lens optical zoom or digital zoom, the field of view angle can also be customized ranging from 69~ 112 degree view angle for Amcrest and Lorex can also vary ranging from 39~102 degree view angle.
Unlike Amcrest and Hikvision, Lorex applies color night vision (CNV) technology for LNE8974 and some other new Lorex cameras. With CNV technology, you still can still record night vision with color as long as there is still ambient light. However when it is completely dark, it switches to black and night like other camera in general up to 250 ft distance. other competing products can illuminate up to only 100 ft in general.
Both Amcrest IP8M-2493 and Hikvision 2CD2185FWD don’t feature audio, but Lorex LNE8974 comes with built-in audio.
Other features show that Lorex LNE8974 offers richer features including customized regional motion zones and privacy masking.
