Hikvision vs Dahua Color Night Vision Security Camera
If so far your security camera gives you black and white night vision at darkness, of course you cannot see the details of the person or vehicle that is captured by your camera clearly because it does not provide the original color of the object but black and white. It’s time to replace your security camera with the one that can provide full day 24/7 color view. Hikvision and Dahua offer few models of color night vision security camera.
Color Night Vision Security Camera
Forget your security camera that only gives color view during the day, while in the evening when the night is covered by dim night light, then your security camera will shift into black and white view consequently.
24/7 Full color
In some security camera models that use the Starlight CMOS image sensor, the camera can still provide color night vision when the light intensity is down up to certain number of Lux minimum illumination as specified in datasheet by the vendor, and usually the camera provides the option to continue to provide color night vision by absorbing ambient light around it as in Reolink Argus PT.
Some security camera models are equipped with warm light to add ambient light around the frame up to certain feet distance and use a wide diaphragm design so that it can absorb as much light as possible to produce a vivid and clear color image such as Hikvision DS-2CD2347G1-LU and also Dahua IPC-HDW5442TM-AS-LED .
There are also few number of camera models that use floodlight that only ON when is triggered by an event such as motion detection which than provides color night vision such as Arlo Pro 3 floodlight.
Here are few models of color night vision security cameras on the market.
Hikvision DS-2CD2347G1-LU is one of Hikvision ColorVu security camera series with turret model that provide 24/7 full time color view in addition of bullet model ColorVu series. It doesn’t come with Infrared LEDs like other night vision camera in general, but it comes with warm white LED illuminator up to 30m (98ft).
How ColorVu camera is compared with standard night vision camera? Take a watch at the following video introduction (courtesy by Hikvision).
Hikvision ColorVu security camera series come with smart feature-set including line crossing detection, intrusion detection, object removal detection, unattended baggage detection, scene change detection and also face detection.

This product is tagged with the price around $170 in Amazon. When the original Hikvision brand is out of stock, you may try the OEM model – offered by Vikylin.
Another similar turret model is offered by Dahua technology – the Dahua IPC-HDW5442TM-AS-LED. This product uses two LEDs to illuminate the surrounding to help the camera recording in color night vision, that’s what the –LED means. There is another version without the LEDs so you need to provide sufficient lights within the frame for color night vision.
These two LEDs illuminate your property up to 66ft, a bit shorter than Hikvision Ds-2cd2347g1-Lu which distance is up to 30m (100ft).
When you compare with Hikvision as discussed above you can find that Hikvision is equipped with wider diaphragms lens (f1.0) as opposed to f1.6 offered by Dahua. The wider the diaphragm the more light can enter the image sensor, so the faster the lens.
Wide dynamic range (WDR) is a technology for the camera to resolve the challenging of bright/dark lighting situations and is typical measured of ratio between the brightest and the dimmest object that can be captured by the camera. Standard WDR is typically rated at 60dB and the true WDR is rated as 120dB. And you see that Dahua IPC-HDW5442TM-AS-LED is rated at 140dB, wider than Hikvision as discussed above which is rated at 120dB.
- Dahua turret model color night vision security camera with Triple-stream encoding
- Fixed lens with 2.8mm and optional 3.6mm and 6.0mm
- Field of view angle 113° (2.8mm), 89° (3.6mm), 56° (6.0mm)
- Minimum Illumination: 0.002 Lux@F1.6
- High resolution up to 2k(2688 × 1520) @25/30 fps or full HD (1080p) @50/60 fps
- 1/1.8” 4Megapixel progressive scan CMOS and support H.265 & H.264
- 140dB Wide dynamic range (WDR) and 3D DNR
- 2 LEDs distance up to 66ft (20m) with Auto / Manual On/Off control
- Comes with built-in microphone for one way audio
- Smart feature: Face detection, tripwire, intrusion, and people counting
- Support Micro SD Card up to 256GB
- PoE (802.3af) or DC12v
- IP67 weatherproof with metal body housing
Not too much difference the prices between the two products, around $170 in Amazon. There few models with OEM Dahua and one of them is offered by Loryta.
In a nutshell, Dahua Ipc-Hdw5442tm-As-Led is engineered with wider dynamic range up to 140dB, and is richer and smarter features than Hikvision. Both are designed with turret model with fixed lens, and you may also consider turret model offered by Amcrest ip8m-mt2544 4k camera with 4x optical zoom.
Let’s have a look at the following spec comparison table between Hikvision vs Dahua color night vision security camera.

Both have almost the same price in the market, and mostly used for businesses that connect to NVR system together with other connected cameras.
For consumer products you can use for homes, you may consider Ezviz C3X with dual lens technology.
For the needs of your home who expect full color 24/7 you may consider Ezviz C3w at a cheaper price compared to Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight.
Like Hikvision and Dahua as discussed above both equipped with two LEDs for illumination around your property, the Ezviz C3W is also equipped with two spotlights that can provide illumination for color night vision performance. And you can also turn off both of these spotlights by still being able to have Black and White night vision with IR LEDs up to a distance of 30m (98ft).
Three Night Vision Modes
Ezviz C3W is designed to work with three types of night vision modes, full color mode with spotlights ON at night, the B/W mode with IR LEDs, and Smart mode that gives you color night vision when it is triggered by motion detection. In addition of spotlights, it also comes with siren to deter the unwanted guest.
With IP67 rated weatherproof this Ezviz C3W is ideal for outdoor placement in your front yard or backyard. Connection is standard 802.11b/g/n up to 144Mbps @2.4GHz radio band.
This is a new product, still not available in Amazon. You may consider the dual lens model of Ezviz C3X color night vision security camera, one lens records the ambient brightness and the other captures color information and the camera system merge both image to produce vivid color night vision.
