Hikvision Colorvu vs Dahua Color full

Hikvision and Dahua are two major vendors in security camera with worldwide market, and today they offer various models of color night vision security camera. Hikvision introduces Colorvu series while Dahua offers Full-color series.

Dahua Full-color Cameras

Dahua introduces bunch of color night vision security cameras with its Full-color series. And today, the newest Dahua full-color series is full-color 2.0, the second generation with more enhancement features. The Dahua full-color 2.0 lineup still uses white LEDs, however without the white light enabled while the ambient light is appropriate the cameras still provide clear and sharp color image quality.

In Dahua full-color 2.0 lineup; you can find dual lens models (you still can experience color image without turning on supplementary white light), few ones come with 4k resolution with 1/1.2inch image sensor, few models come with varifocal lens or standard fixed lens. Few models come with AI technology for AI search using color attribute and AI schedule based on different time periods. However, to enable this AI features these cameras should connect to compatible Dahua 5-I/L NVR series.

We will take Dahua 8MP full-color camera (Dh-Ipc-Hfw5849t1-Ase-Led) and compare it later with one of Hikvision 8MP Colorvu camera.

Hikvision Colorvu

Hikvision colorvu is now entering the second generation (G2) which provides better performance in capturing colored objects even in darkness environment with their advanced image processing algorithms and built-in lighting. Hikvision colorvu g2 cameras come with its 2nd Generation AcuSense technology to provide accuracy up to 90 % in reducing false alarm in detecting human and vehicle. What features contributes color night vision?

Wide aperture

Almost all security cameras that offer color night vision equip their lenses with wide aperture (f/1.0) that can absorb 2.5x more light than lenses with f/1.6. And in addition for challenging low light conditions, most security cameras come with warm light to illuminate surrounding to render color night vision.

Warm light

Besides the wide aperture factor (f/1.0) with the addition of warm light the camera can still provide color live views. Most Hikvision Colorvu and Dahua full-color series products use warm light as ambient light to provide color night vision. On the other hand, Dahua full color series cameras provide two types of full color camera models, cameras without or with warm light in addition to the lens design with wide aperture f/1.0 or f/1.2.

Starlight CMOS image sensor

Today you can find security cameras that come with starlight CMOS image sensor that has a very low light sensitivity from 0.01 lux (moonlight environment) up to 0.001 lux (where no moonlight is present). Most security cameras with starlight CMOS image sensor have minimum illumination of around 0.001 lux for color night vision (moonless night conditions), and with the addition of warm light will assure capturing color night vision.

Comparison table

Let’s see how spec comparison between these two models of color night vision cameras. Table 1 below shows you technical specs between Dahua Dh-Ipc-Hfw5849t1-Ase-Led and Hikvision Ds-2cd2387g2-Lu.

4k Resolution

Both of these two series, either Hikvision or Dahua are the second generation of their flagship in color night vision, 4k resolution using the same size of image sensor and minimum illumination is 0.0005lux you still get color vision. They will switch to black and white night vision when the illumination drops up to 0lux. To keep the camera capture color vision, they need to enable their built-in white lights.

Illuminator

Both camera models either Hikvision Colorvu or Dahua full-color are equipped with illuminators that contain IR light and white light that are configurable. It doesn’t mean that color night vision security cameras don’t have IR light for b/w night vision; however these two camera models provide an option for that.

With Hikivision Colorvu you can configure the illuminator with three option modes, day mode which will always provide color mode.

The second option is night mode, which provides color night vision when there is still light around. The b/w night vision when the ambient light drops to 0 lux. However, when you do a live view the camera will turn on the illuminator to render color live view. And the third option is auto mode which works automatically between day mode and night mode.

In addition of the three options above, you still can schedule when the illuminator will turn on with range of start and finish period at night for full color night vision.

When you compare Hikvision colorvu with Dahua full-color, what you can do with illuminators is almost the same. With Dahua you have three options regarding the built-in illuminators: IR Mode, White Light; and Soft Light options. You can configure this from Select > Camera > Image > Illuminator.

When you select the IR mode, the illuminator is disabled. In White light mode, the illuminator is enabled and IR illuminator is disabled. And the last option is Soft Light mode which both IR and white light illuminators are enabled.

WDR

Dahua is designed with 140dBi WDR feature which is higher than Hikvision which is only 130 dBi WDR. The WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) feature is the camera’s ability to challenge situations where two bright and dark light conditions exist in one frame to produce a vivid balanced image.

Smart Feature-set

Both Hikvision ColorVu and Dahua full-color security camera series support both basic and smart features including deep learning technology to capture and detect human face, tripwire intrusion, line crossing and still lots of alert types.

Face detection is very helpful in your business property security system, when an unknown face enters a defined area, an alert will be triggered and take action according to the alarm you defined. Dahua provides many parameters that you can setup in more detail in recognizing faces.

Besides other alert features, it provides special alarms when something goes wrong that can reduce the performance of the security camera including network disconnection, illegal access, video tampering, etc.
