Hikvision ColorVu vs Dahua Full Color Night Vision Security Camera Which One is Better

If so far your security camera gives you black and white night vision at darkness, of course you cannot see the details of the person or vehicle that is captured by your camera clearly because it does not provide the original color of the object but black and white. It’s time to replace your security camera with the one that can provide full 24/7 color view.

Hikvision Colorvu vs Dahua Color full

Hikvision and Dahua are two major vendors in security camera with worldwide market, and today they offer few models of color night vision security camera.

Almost all security cameras that offer color night vision equip their lenses with a very wide aperture (f/1.0) that can absorb 2.5x more light than lenses with f/1.6. And in addition for challenging low light conditions, most security cameras come with warm light to allow them render color night vision.

Warm light

Besides the wide aperture factor (f/1.0) with the addition of warm light the camera can still provide color live views. Most Hikvision colorvu series products use warm light as ambient light to provide color night vision. On the other hand, Dahua full color series cameras provide two types of full color camera models, cameras without or with warm light in addition to the lens design with wide aperture f/1.0.

Starlight CMOS image sensor

Today you can find security cameras that come with starlight CMOS image sensor that has a very low light sensitivity from 0.01 lux (moonlight environment) up to 0.001 lux (where no moonlight is present). Most security cameras with starlight CMOS image sensor have minimum illumination of around 0.001 lux for color night vision (moonless night conditions), and with the addition of warm light will assure capturing color night vision. See also security cameras with floodlight as illuminator for color night vision – see Arlo Pro 3 floodlight.

Hikvision colorvu 4MP turret camera vs Dahua

Both Hikvision and Dahua introduces various models of color night vision camera with Turret, dome and bullet model either with or without warm light for ambient light addition. Let’s take Hikvision Ds-2cd2347g1-Lu 4MP colorvu turret model camera and also Dahua Ipc-Hdw5442tmp-As-Led to compare.

Table 1 below shows you spec comparison table between the two products.

Hikvision Ds-2cd2347g1-Lu is one of Hikvision ColorVu security camera series with turret model and it doesn’t come with Infrared LEDs like other night vision camera in general, but it comes with warm white LED illuminator up to 30m for color night vision.

How ColorVu camera is compared with standard night vision camera? Take a watch at the following video introduction (courtesy by Hikvision).

Smart Feature-set

Hikvision ColorVu security camera series come with smart feature-set including line crossing detection, intrusion detection, object removal detection, unattended baggage detection, scene change detection and also face detection. Dahua color full camera (Ipc-Hdw5442tmp-As-Led) is also featuring the same smart features.

Light Sensitivity

Technically, the light sensitivity of the Hikvision Colorvu image sensor is better than Dahua, and the maximum aperture of the Hikvision is wider (f/1.0) than the Dahua (f/1.6). This means that Hikvision Colorvu can technically capture more light than Dahua in the same low light conditions.

Dahua still provides manual on/off night vision with smart IR, while hikvision does not provide an IR night vision option.

Dahua is designed with 140dBi WDR feature which is higher than Hikvision which is only 120 dBi WDR. The WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) feature is the camera’s ability to challenge situations where two bright and dark light conditions exist in one frame to produce a vivid balanced image.
